This dual credit course through Modesto Junior College offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while studying key events, people, and movements in American history. The class is divided into two sections: History 101 (U.S. History to 1865) and History 102 (U.S. History Since 1865).
In History 101, students will explore the origins and development of the United States from pre-Columbian times through the Civil War, including the colonial period, the American Revolution, the Constitution, and the conflicts that led to the Civil War.
History 102 picks up after 1865, covering Reconstruction, the rise of industrialization, the impact of immigration, the World Wars, the Civil Rights Movement, and contemporary issues shaping modern America.
Through lectures, readings, and discussions, students will deepen their understanding of American history and develop critical thinking, writing, and research skills, all while earning college credit that can be applied toward a degree program. This course is perfect for students interested in history, social sciences, or pursuing higher education after graduation.
