Hello everyone! I'm Carlos Mendoza and I'm excited to be the AVID Teacher for both DHS and DMS. Even though this is my first year as a teacher, I have actually been in the district for a couple of years now. I met the current freshman class when they were 6th graders and I started off as a Para Educator. I looked forward to working with them as my official students.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, my goal for this year is to support students in taking one step further than they think they can. The goal of AVID is to inspire students to think about their futures and also provide them with the tools to be successful. My hope is that each student has a positive experience in this class and hopefully with a stronger foundation for them to build themselves up from.
