What is Skills Builder?
Skills Builder Benchmark
Skills Builder Universal Framework
Your Skills Builder Log
The Skills Builder framework breaks down skills into steps which can be mastered by students. The framework places nearly all skills into steps within broader skill sets. Click on the relevant image below to find the 16 steps which make up that skill.
The product of five years’ cutting-edge research and design, the Skills Builder Universal Framework makes it possible for everyone to learn and measure essential skills.
The Framework breaks each of the eight skills down into a sequence of steps, supporting an individual's personal development from absolute beginner through to mastery. It takes soft skills and puts rigour behind them and supports students in identifying why these skills are important and in what context they can be discussed on their applications to universities and other routes.
You can access the Universal Framework here.
Skills Builder Benchmark
Within CORE, we use Skills Builder Benchmark to assess students' skills to help them identify their key strengths and areas to develop. Upon completion, a student will be presented with 3 strengths and areas for development for each skill, and can access resources to develop and hone these skills over time. This tool can also be used alongside the Universal Framework to educate students on the importance of the skills and their relevance in the world of work.
Your Skills Builder Log
Within CORE, students will be asked to check in with their Skills Builder Log to record key times that they can evidence the steps within the different skills. This log can also track skill development outside of sixth form, and can be used by students when preparing for their applications to university or apprenticeships in the future. All students can access their log on their year group appropriate Progression Google Classroom.
Our log also allows students to track their digital literacy, which has a growing importance in the current job market!
