Student Well-being at DSFC

STUDENT WELFARE

We pride ourselves on the support which we offer students and are equally as interested in their personal welfare as their academic welfare. If a student thinks they may be suffering with stress, anxiety and/or depression or have any other issues worrying them, please ensure they contact their Pastoral Support Manager or Mrs Miller our Health and Well-being Officer who can refer them to the appropriate services. There are various forms of confidential counselling available at Durham Sixth Form Centre.

PASTORAL SUPPORT MANAGER (PSM)

Our Pastoral Support Managers have a similar role to a Head of Year and they will be available to help and support students throughout their time at DSFC. If students are struggling with work or want to talk about something affecting their studies, they should contact their Pastoral Support Manager. If a student is thinking of leaving there may be support available to enable them to stay and complete their studies or we can help direct you to services that can help with planning alternative pathways.

Health & Well-being Officer

Our Health and Well-being Officer's main role is to offer a confidential advice and information service to students, on any health and well-being issue.

Support may involve signposting students to appropriate services, and make referrals into any of our counselling and support services based onsite. We currently have a school counselor, an Emotional Resilience Nurse, a Support Worker, as well as a new schools mental health support service. I can also refer into an NHS service called Talking Changes as well as CAMHS.

If students have any worries about health and lifestyle, for example anxiety, stress, healthy eating, sexual health, accessing free condoms, exam stress, and many more topics, I can be contacted. Students can discuss any personal matter safe in the knowledge that it will not be shared without their consent (please be aware however safeguarding or child protection issues will be reported to our Safeguarding Officer).

Students and parents/carers can visit the website (www.teensfortomorrow.co.uk) follow Teens for Tomorrow on social media and hopefully educate themselves and make positive decisions as a result.
