Curriculum Associates - Offline

Printable at-home activity packs are designed to provide students with valuable self-directed exercises and practice during extended absences from school. Each pack is designed to reinforce key concepts for a given grade.

In an effort to support teachers and families, these resources have been gathered and created to provide learning activities for children that are aligned to NC standards and do not require technology.



NASA STEM @ HOme

NASA has compiled a variety of offline STEM activities that students can complete at home. These resources have various projects, games, and coloring sheets. Click here to take a look.

UNC-TV - Available On TV

UNC-TV and the NC Department of Public Instruction are partnering to support school-age children learning at home by providing free, curriculum-informed, over-the-air content that is widely accessible to students—especially those with limited or no internet access.

Each weekday, two blocks of programs on UNC-TV's North Carolina Channel will serve students: fourth through eighth grade, from 11 AM-2 PM, and ninth through twelfth grade, from 2 PM-5 PM. These educational program blocks are available on the North Carolina Channel, available statewide for free over-the-air, through cable providers and streamed online here.

K-12 Advanced Learning Labs

ADVANCED LEARNING LABS are provided for K-12 students each week beginning May 1st. Students explore logic puzzles, go on field studies, engage in research explorations, participate in mindfulness activities and more -- all through remote learning. These may be printed or used online.

Online Resources

IsTation

Istation provides at home practice for students to support reading instruction.

  • Istation Home - Students that have access to a device at home can download and install the Istation program. Students will log in as they do at school via NCEdCloud. However, they do not have access to take assessments, but are able to select Reading with ISIP to continue their educational path and move forward with the same activities they see in the classroom.   • NEW - Students now have access to additional practice at home via Istation. When students log in, they should now see the following options:

            • Reading with ISIP - Reading with ISIP is an adaptive reading program based on your child's current level. This program will provide students with reading instructional practice based on their current needs.

            • Books - Books provide a library of online books for your child.

            • Writing Rules! - Writing Rules! provides your child with writing instruction and practice opportunities.

            • Math with ISIP - Math with ISIP is an adaptive math program based on your child's current level. This program will provide students with math instructional practice based on their current needs.

            • IPractice - IPractice provides students with a variety of learning activities to practice their skills.



Waterford Early Learning

Waterford Early Learning provides students with adaptive reading, math & science instruction for students.

  • Waterford Home Access - Students actively use Waterford Early Learning at school and can continue their practice while at home. It is recommended that Kindergarten students spend 15 minutes completing Reading and 15 minutes completing Math & Science four days a week. First through third grades students are recommended to spend 20 minutes completing Reading and 20 minutes completing Math & Science four days a week. Students may use Waterford Early Learning Home Access if it has been turned on by his/her teacher. Click here for instructions.

into Math

Into Math is the core curriculum resource for math students in grades K-5. Students have access to the digital content online, which matches his/her classroom textbooks. Students may complete interactive lessons and activities as a review of concepts already learned or exploring new concepts. Click here for instructions on accessing Into Math.

Social Studies Weekly

Social Studies Weekly is a supplemental social studies resource for students in grades K-6. Students have access to read weekly units online and complete interactive activities. Each week allows students to delve deeper into history through primary source images and videos. Students also love the audio reader, highlighting tools and rewards system. Discovery Education

Students can access the Discovery Education Science and Social Studies techbook to support learning. Built on the 5E model, Science Techbook provides exciting multimedia, virtual activities and hands-on labs with model lessons, STEM project starters, and standard-aligned assessments. The Social Studies Techbook is a standards-aligned, core-curricular resource that uses an inquiry-based approach to enhance literacy and critical thinking skills, allowing students to approach inquiry through the 5Es: Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate. From stories of ancient cultures to current events, this comprehensive digital textbook takes concepts off the pages and brings lessons to life. Click here for instructions on how to access.

  • Daily DE - The Daily DE features a grade-band appropriate learning activity for every day of the week. From digital interactives to virtual field trips to fun science experiments and more, these daily activities are great for keeping the learning going at home! Destiny Discover

Destiny Discover is our schools' library catalog system that provides all students in grades K-12 with access to high quality print and digital books, as well as online resources. Students can access Destiny Discover at home to read ebooks as well as research topics that they are interested in learning more about.

  • eBooks - Students have access to a wide-variety of ebooks that can be read online on laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Click here for instructions on checking out an ebook.

  • Research & other resources - Students have access to a wide-variety of digital resources via the Destiny Discover Collection. Students can read articles, view videos, and explore interactive learning opportunities. Click here for instructions.

Safari Montage

Safari Montage is a K-8 learning object repository. It provides students and teachers with access to educationally vetted video content, audio files, images, ebooks, website, interactive lessons and more. The K–8 curriculum titles in this package come from the most highly acclaimed publishers, such as Ambrose Video, BBC, Biography, Disney Educational Productions, The History Channel, National Geographic, PBS, Scholastic, Weston Woods and others, in addition to award-winning programs from Schlessinger Media. Each title is correlated to Common Core and State Standards. All video titles have been segmented into chapters and key concepts, and many include a quiz. Schlessinger Media titles also include closed-captioning, a teacher's guide and a Spanish language track. Click here for instructions on how to access.

LEarning.com

Learning.com is comprehensive suite of digital literacy resources that are available to K-8 students and teachers. Students are provided with fun online interactive learning opportunities in the areas of Online Safety & Digital Citizenship, Computer Fundamentals, Keyboarding, Internet Usage & Online Communication, Computational Thinking & Coding, and more. NCWISe Owl

NCWise Owl is North Carolina's K-12 source for research databases, E-Journals, primary sources, magazine subscriptions, collections, encyclopedia, ebooks, and more. NCWiseOwl’s subscription databases provide access to articles from thousands of magazines, from online encyclopedias and reference sources, and from a variety of other sources that are only available through subscription services. Using NCWiseOwl for online research places students in a safer, advertising-free environment with age-appropriate information and tools that assist students with the research process. NCWiseOwl resources are available anywhere that Internet access is provided. No passwords are required when using devices on campus. However, passwords are required for at home use. Students and/or parents may contact their teachers and/or Digital Learning Media Coordinator to obtain the passwords. Click here to get started.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content. Click here to get started.

CK-12

CK-12 is an open educational resources that is free to students and teachers. It provides access educationally vetted interactive lessons, resources, textbooks, videos, images, and other materials. CK-12 is free to all students and teachers in grades K-12. Click here to get started.

Hour of Code

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Coding challenges are available in 30 different languages and available for any age group. There are even offline coding opportunities. Click here to get started.

Storyline Online

Storyline Online, streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations. Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading. Storyline Online is available 24 hours a day for children, parents, caregivers and educators worldwide. Each book includes supplemental curriculum developed by a credentialed elementary educator, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners. Brain Pop

Brain Pop is a supplement resource that help students learn and explore the world around them. Students engage in learning through learning games, animated movies, and activities. Designed with relevance, depth, and humor to encourage kids on their unique learning paths. Brain Pop is offering free access to families during school closures. Each day they offer a free lesson on their home page. Parents can register for a free account to access additional lessons. Click here to get started.


National Geographic Kids

National Geographic Kids offer students a variety of videos, images, articles, quizzes, and games to help them understand their world and their place in it. Click here to check it out.

Chrome Music Lab

Chrome Music Lab is a website that makes learning music more accessible through fun, hands-on experiments. Students can explore music and its connections to science, math, art, and more. Check it out.

Spanish Children's Stories

The Spanish Experiment has taken well-known children's stories translated into Spanish and spoken by a native Spanish speaker. Great for kids... and adults too! Read along in Spanish or English. Click here to check it out.


ABCYA

ABCya provides over 400 fun and educational games for grades PreK through 6. Activities are designed by parents and educators, who understand that children learn better if they are having fun. Games are categorized by grade and subject and are standards aligned, and cover topics such as multiplication, parts of speech, typing, pattern recognition, and more. Click here to check it out.


BREAKOUT EDU Fun @ Home

Breakout Edu Fun @ Home provides a wide variety of digital breakout challenges similar to modern day Escape rooms. Students will use critical thinking skills to locate the clues to open the locks. Click here to get started.

Go Noodle

Go Noodle provides students with videos that encourages students to get up and get active. These videos promote physical wellness, academic success, and social-emotional health. It inspires all students to be active and mindful with a wide range of offerings that appeal to kids' different ages, interests, skills, and abilities. Click here to get moving.

UNCW Engineering Expectations

As part of our QuaranSTEAM efforts, UNCW Engineering Expectations is challenging kids and families to engineer a prototype face mask with items found in their home. Just like the Apollo 13 mission astronauts who experienced a most extreme form of social isolation in space along with hostile environmental conditions due to a buildup of CO2, you can only use supplies that you can find in your house (or spaceship) to engineer a solution.
