What are we learning in September?
In the first couple of weeks in Math 8, we did review materials from 7th grade. Now, we are moving on to solving equations. We will be working with one, two, and multi-step equations. We will test over those in late September, then we will move on to equations with variables on both sides. That will finish out Unit 2 for us!
In U.S. History, students started the year off by studying European Exploration of the Americas. While discussing specific explorers, we also examined the impact of the Columbian Exchange. Now that the classes have learned about some of the early established colonies in the New World, students will take a closer look at the three colonial regions that developed - the New England, the Middle, and the Southern Colonies. Finally, we will wrap up with the French and Indian War before we tackle the Road to Revolution.

Students started their narrative essays for this quarter. They are writing a hero's journey and have many creative ideas.

After the essay is completed, we will start reading our next selection, "Flowers for Algernon." This is one of my favorites.

In Science 8, students are concluding their study of measurement and scientific methods. Students will then proceed to a unit about the water cycle and weather. We will be doing various hands-on activites that relate to those topics. Some of the activities will require us to be outside, so I am hoping for nice September weather and plenty of sunshine.

In Algebra 1, we just finished reviewing equations. Now we are moving on to inequalities. This will round out Unit 1, then we will take a small break from Algebra, and complete a Math 8 - Mini Unit over The Real Number System!

Students are concluding the lesson, "Life as a Hunter" and they will be proceeding with the multipart lesson, "LuLu the Lion". In the LuLu lesson, students will be focused on learning about how the parentage of lion cubs can be determined by analyzing genetic information and geographical information that is gathered in the field by actual Biologists.

September 1 -- Labor Day (no school)
September 14 -- CHS Homecoming
Students should always have a charged iPad, as well as their charger, at school each day.
Headphones of any kind are not to be worn in the building unless permitted by the teacher.
Students should keep their phone put away in lockers at all times.
