Chesterton High School

The CHS Art Department provides a well-rounded art experience both for the student planning a career in art and the student with a general interest in the visual arts. Our faculty cultivate an environment that challenges students to be critical thinkers, creative problem solvers and authentic humans.

Terese Maletta

Department Chair

Ms. Maletta has been a DSC teacher since 1992 and teaches Ceramics 1 & 2 and Jewelry. She got her undergrad degree from Indiana Iniversity and teaching / masters degree from Valparaiso University. Ms. Maletta enjoys creating religious art, tennis, golf and the Cubs.

Colin May

Art Club Co-Coordinator

Mr. May has been a DSC teacher since 2006. He teaches Drawing 1 , Visual Communications and printmaking at CHS. He received his undergraduate and masters degrees from Ball State University. Mr. May enjoys loud music, challenging art, vegan food and movies.

Patrick Miller

IB Coordinator

Mr. Miller has been a DSC teacher since 2015. He teaches IB Art and Sculpture 1 & 2. He received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Illinois University. Mr. Miller enjoys hiking, outdoors, motorcycles, reading, computers, music, film and pop culture.

Taylor Ricks

Art Club Co-Coordinator

Ms. Ricks has been a DSC teacher since 2016. She teaches Drawing 2 and Painting 1 & 2. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University Northwest. Ms. Ricks enjoys painting, sculpture, special effects prosthetics and make up, her dogs, hiking.

Adam Schultz

Mr. Schultz has been a DSC teacher since 2007 and teaches Photography 1 & 2. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees Indiana Wesleyan University. Mr. Schultz enjoys music, golf, food and philosophy.

Jill Smoker

Mrs. Smoker has been a DSC teacher since 2013. She teaches Digital Design 1 & 2 and Jewelry. She received her graduate and undergraduate degrees from Purdue University. Mrs. Smoker enjoys soccer, watching gymnastics, creating art, playing with her daughter and reading.

Schedule:

Chesterton High School incorporates a block schedule with 90 minute classes, maximizing instruction & studio time. Visual arts classes are semester long.

Art Club:

Art Club is open to all students who wish to practice their creative skills with fellow artists and benefit the community. Meetings are held every other Thursday in room D219 and all are welcome. Contact Mr. May or Ms. Ricks for more information.

International Baccalaureate:

Chesterton High School proudly participates in the International Baccalaureate program and offers courses in IB Art. A culminating art show at the end of every year highlights the accomplishments of our IB art students.
