February 2023 Edition

What are we learning in January?

In Math 8, students are starting to graph lines from equations, tables, and points. We will be starting a project in the middle of this month with building a virtual pethouse.

In English 8, we just finished up a non-fiction unit and a review of essay types.  Coming up in February, we will be working on a small research project.  We will also be starting the play, The Diary of Anne Frank.

Science 8 continues to work through their study of chemistry. We finished up talking about atomic structure and learning about protons, neutrons, and electrons. This included a study of the periodic table as well. Now we are learning about bonding including the two main types Ionic and Covalent.

In U. S. History, students will learn about the Age of Jefferson, the Louisiana Purchase, and the Lewis & Clark's exploration of the territory. Students will analyze some primary documents associated with Lewis & Clark to better understand their journey.  Mid-February, students will study James Madison and the War of 1812, followed by James Monroe and the Era of Good Feelings.  At the end of the month, students will start to learn about the Age of Jackson.

In Algebra 1 Honors, students are working on the factoring unit. This unit is one of the most important units in math for your child's math career. We are spending a lot of days on the unit. We are then going to move back to cover the last bit of 8th grade standards.

In Honors English 8, we just finished up a non-fiction unit and a review of essay types.  Coming up in February, we will be working on a small research project.  We will also be starting the play, The Diary of Anne Frank.
