May 2022:

Take a look at what Team Notre Dame is learning!

Math 8:

We are wrapping up the year with a polynomial unit. Students have been adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials. This is a skill that they will be using in Algebra 1 next year. Our last test is May 17th and then the final exam is on May 24th. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and best wishes for success at CHS next year.

Science 8:

Students have been learning about inheritance. We have been discussing and investigating different chances of traits through punnet squares. We have also discussed mutations and genetic engineering to see how scientists combat cancer. We will soon be talking about DNA and how it functions. It has been a fast and fun year. Best of luck in High School.

U.S. History 8:

In May, the final month of this school year, students will learn about the Civil War and Reconstruction. Students will examine the various aspects of the Civil War, including political leaders, military leaders, battles, and outcomes. Following our study of the Civil War, students will investigate the circumstances surrounding President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and examine the plans for Reconstruction. On Wednesday, May 11th, all students will take the Reading portion of the NWEA test during social studies classes. Also, the final exam for the social studies department is scheduled for Friday, May 20th.

As the end of this school year nears, it’s hard to believe that it is almost time to say goodbye. Best wishes for continued success in high school and beyond as you continue to make your own mark on history.

English 8/Honors English 8:

Students began reading The Outsiders in Miss MacKenzie's class and this novel will take us through to the end of the school year. Students are applying the skills learned this school year, such as understanding what is stated and implied from a text, determining the meaning of words from a text while using context clues, and practicing writing constructed responses with strong text evidence.

Miss MacKenzie can't believe that we are in the final stretch of this school year! Best of luck to all of her students in their future endeavors. She is so proud of each and every one of you! You all have worked so hard this year and it never goes unnoticed. Keep up the fantastic work in high school, give your best effort in everything you do, and stay you. 😊 Make the best of this final month!

Algebra 1:

Students are learning about rational expressions. They have been multiplying and dividing them and will be solving equations with them. They will be finishing the year graphing and solving square root equations. The last test is May 17th and the final exam is on May 23rd and 24th. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and best wishes for success at CHS next year.

📚 English 8: The Outsiders Novel Study 📚

Students are ending off the school year with a fan favorite, The Outsiders written by S. E. Hinton. This novel is a heroic story of friendship and belonging. Ponyboy can count on his brothers and his friends, but not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up "greasers" like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect--until the night someone takes things too far.

Here are some students in Miss MacKenzie's class reading their novels!

Reminders:

  • Students should NOT bring their phones or headphones to classes.

  • Please remind your child to charge their iPad every night. Students complete many of their classwork assignments on the iPad, so it is important that it is ready for them to use the entire day.

  • Students should continue bringing basic supplies, such as paper, pencils, folders, etc. to classes.
