The other fourth grade teachers and I thought it would be best to have a unified behavior plan for all of fourth grade. The plan is as follows:
Students are given the opportunity to earn classroom dollars. They can earn money through positive behavior choices such as returning items in a timely manner, strong academic work or other instances where the teacher deems appropriate. Students are responsible for keeping track of their own money. The money may be spent at regularly scheduled class auctions. However, misbehaviors may occur. When this happens, the resulting procedures are followed:
1st occurrence - Student will receive a verbal warning from the teacher.
2nd occurrence - Student will lose classroom money. If the student does not have any classroom money, he or she will lose a portion of recess.
3rd occurrence - Student will lose classroom money. If the student does not have any classroom money, he or she will lose a portion of or all recess. A parent may also be contacted.
If more than three occurrences take place in a day, the following may take place:
A phone call or email/ClassDojo home
A meeting to discuss ways to improve your child’s behavior
A trip to Mr. Cammarata’s office
The classroom is just as much mine as it is the students. That is why I think it is important to involve students in the process of keeping our classroom community clean and safe. Classroom jobs are a great way to help students develop a sense of ownership and responsibility within the classroom. In our classroom, we have the following jobs:
Library Assistant
Paper Passer
Teacher Assistant
Lunch Counter
Pencil Patrol
Light Monitor
Clean-up Crew
Calendar Helper
Board Eraser
Every week, students will have the opportunity to try out a new classroom job!
