What are we learning in March?
Math 8 will round out this quarter by learning about Transformations! We just finished our Systems & Scatter Plots unit, which included the awesome Pet House Project! You'll be able to see those in the March At A Glance - Coming Soon!!
Transformation will start and finish in Quarter 3. This is a rather quick unit, so we will just quiz (not test) over Transformations. We will also do a Quarter 3 review before Spring Break!
In history, students will take a close look at Westward Expansion as our country continues to grow and settlers look for land and opportunities west of the Mississippi River. Additionally, students will examine Andrew Jackson's presidency, the Texas Annexation, the Mexican-American War, and the Industrial Revolution. As March comes to a close, students will complete a project on the Industrial Revolution that incorporates many literacy skills.

In Honors English 8, students will begin reading a play based on The Diary of Anne Frank, learn about verbals, and read some poetry in the month of March. We also have our big SAT Words Test coming up on March 20th.

In English 8, students will be working on grammar and poetry leading up to the break. We will review narrative essays after the break, and review before students have the opportunity to show their growth on iLearn this year.

In Science 8, students are learning about the theory of evolution by natural selection. Within this unit, we will be learning about the theories of Charles Darwin, and how his observations in the Galapagos Islands contributed to his the theory. Additionally, students will learn about how variation in traits can lead to adaptation in living things. Students can expect an exam before Spring Break over this unit.

Algebra 1 just finished factoring in February! While the unit is over, we will caring most of that knowledge with us into the next unit!
Algebra 1 will finish out the quarter with radicals! We will learn to simplify, add, subtract, multiply, divide, and solve radicals!
In Biology, students will continue our study within the module, "Melanin" which will integrate various biology topics as part of the storyline.

Primarily, students will learn about pedigrees, karyotypes, and how mutations can cause changes in DNA that cause various genetic conditions. Additionally, students will learn in detail about the synthesis of proteins and how mistakes in that process affect the traits of living things. Students will be studying these topics throughout March and can expect an exam before Spring Break.

Students should always have a charged iPad, as well as their charger, at school each day.
Headphones of any kind are not to be worn in the building unless permitted by the teacher.
Students should keep their phone put away in lockers at all times.
