What are we learning in February?
In Math 8, we just finished up learning about linear vs nonlinear graphs and what a function is. We are now moving to linear equations and graphing linear equations. We will be in this unit for a while. We will also have a project in Unit 8 where my students will be creating the pet house project using the desmos graphing calculator and their knowledge about linear graphs.
In U. S. History, students will learn about the Age of Jefferson, the Louisiana Purchase, and the Lewis & Clark's exploration of the territory. Students will analyze some primary documents associated with Lewis & Clark to better understand their journey. Mid-February, students will study James Madison and the War of 1812, followed by James Monroe and the Era of Good Feelings. At the end of the month, students will start to learn about the Age of Jackson.

In Honors English 8, we are currently in our writing portion of ILEARN prep. We are finishing up argumentative writing, and then we will focus on informative writing. Reading this month will be non-fiction, poetry, and then "The Diary of Anne Frank."

In Science 8 students have been learning how to name ionic compounds. students have also been learning how to write formulas of ionic compounds if given the names of them. Lastly, students have learned how to draw pictures of ionic bonds being formed. Once we are done learning about ionic bonds we will move on to covalent bonds.

In Algebra 1, we are wrapping up our unit on factoring polynomials. This has been a hard unit for a lot of students. We will then be going back to 8th grade for a little bit with transformations of points, lines, and shapes. Once we are finished with that, we will go back into Unit 6 in Algebra 1.
In Biology students have been learning about protein synthesis. They have been learning how DNA gets transcribed and how mRNA is made. students have also been learning about how mRNA is read and a protein gets built.

Students should always have a charged iPad, as well as their charger, at school each day.
Headphones of any kind are not to be worn in the building unless permitted by the teacher.
Students should keep their phone put away at all times.
Teachers sync grades daily. CHAP Reports are generated on Mondays.

Ear buds/Air Pods and cell phones are not to be used in classrooms, unless there is specific permission from a teacher. Students who violate this policy may face disciplinary actions.
