December 2022 Edition

What are we learning in December?

In Math 8, students just finished up the Pythagorean theorem Unit. We are now working on translaing (moving, makeing bigger/smaller, rotating) shapes on a graph. We will be working on this concept until winter break. The final for this class is on Wednesday, December 14th.

In English 8, students are reading Jack London's classic The Call of the Wild. In this unit, the students will be studying character development and theme. We are also focusing on grammar topics that can help develop them as better writers. Some of these topics are review, and some of them are completely new to the students.

In Science 8, students have been focusing their study on Chemistry. We have been learning all about Matter. After the topic of Matter we will dig deeper into the topic of Chemistry and learn about Balancing equations, bonding, and types of reactions.

In U. S. History, students are studying the United States Constitution to learn about the structure of our country's government. Students are learning that the Constitution has three main functions: to create a national government, to divide power between the federal government and the states, and to protect various individual liberties of its citizens. Our study of the Constitution and the Amendments will end in December with the Second Quarter Final Exam on Tuesday, December 13th. Students will start learning about our nation's first president, George Washington, when we return in January. Enjoy your winter break!

In Algebra 1 Honors, students just finished working on some eighth grade materials and went back to working on Algebra I. We are working on laws of exponents, growth and decay, and exponential formulas. This concept will take us to the end of the quarter. The final for this class will be 3 days long. It will start on Tuesday, December 13th and will end on Thursday, December 15th.

In Honors English 8, the students just finished up reading Animal Farm. This week we got started with The Call of the Wild. Themes we will be discussing in this book include leadership, man versus nature, individuality, and adaptability to surroundings. The students will also be studying some new grammar concepts to improve their writing skills.

In Biology, students have been learning about plants. We have been discussing cell division of plant cells. We will also be learning about cellular respiration. After we discuss these topics we will focus our attention on homeostasis.

  • December 13th: U.S. History Final Exam

  • December 14th: Math Final Exam

  • December 15th: Science and Biology Final Exams

  • December 16th: End of Quarter 2 (Winter Recess)

  • January 3rd: Classes resume

  1. Students should always have a charged iPad, as well as their charger, at school each day.

  2. Headphones of any kind are not to be worn in the building unless permitted by the teacher.

  3. Students should keep their phone put away at all times.

  4. Students should continue bringing paper, folder, pencils, etc. to each class daily.

  5. Teachers sync grades daily. CHAP Reports are generated on Fridays.
