Winter season is nearing as the weather becomes colder, snow begins to fall, and the nights come sooner. This means that the time for Ski Club is approaching. Starting on January 4th of 2022, students from 6th grade to 12th will start their first ski of the new year.
The Dublin Ski Club is a district-wide program. Any student in middle or high school can participate after paying an entrance fee of $145 for bus fares. Students will also need to purchase a ski pass. The club package for $264 is recommended. The club takes weekly trips to Mad River Mountain located in Zanesville, Ohio. The first day of the club is January 4th, and continues to ski until February 8th. The club meets six times, with two possible make-up days if weather cancels a trip. Participants will leave on buses to the mountain every Tuesday after school, leaving at the slopes until around 9:30pm or 9:45 depending on grade level. It’s a great way to hang out with friends in the winter while practicing ski skills and having fun. If interested, students can join the Schoology course for the club. (Code: 883G-68H2-K992J)
No prior experience is needed to participate in the club. Beginners can participate in lessons hosted by Mad River that come included with ski passes. Those lessons occur by the hour. More experienced skiers can hit the slopes instantly and hone in on their skills. The mountain has much shorter and less steep slopes, and then considerably more steep slopes. Skiers should ski the appropriate runs based on ability and experience.
The season has not yet started. Signups are currently open until November 19th for the club. Information on how to sign up can be found here. Sign up while you can!
Covid protocols this year are in place after cases still remain high. A Covid waiver is required to sign up for the club this year. Masks are also required in the facility, except when on the slopes. Masks are also required to and from Mad River on the buses. Even then, a face covering on the slopes may not be a bad idea due to the cold weather. Any other materials such as hand sanitizer will have to be provided by the participant. The club also has plans in place for socially distanced activities. Any students who are unvaccinated are not permitted into the cafeteria sitting area.
In terms of equipment, the club recommends Colorado MTN Sports in Hilliard, Ohio. If club participants don’t have the gear, that’s the shop for it. Stay warm on the slopes!
