As the pandemic has spread all over the world, it has made billions of people quarantine and their jobs have been affected negatively. Specifically, the fashion industry has experienced a vast drop in jobs. With the worldwide pandemic, fashion trends and people’s clothing choices have changed drastically. For example, because of the spread of the coronavirus, people have to wear masks for protection. However, masks have shifted from a preventative measure to a fashion item. When people go out in public, they want their mask to match with their outfit.
Because teenagers tend to be the world's trendsetters, young people have been key to this fashion revolution. With influencers and social media, trends come and go fast. Different styles like skater, grunge, alt, indie, leisure/sporty, and others start to gain popularity and influence many teenagers' clothes. Perhaps the most popular social media platform that teenagers use is TikTok. Dublin Coffman High School student Emily Pinto answered a few questions about her fashion choices.
Q. Do you get your fashion ideas from social media and celebrities?
A. Yes, my fashion inspiration is mostly from Tiktok, and when I go shopping, I tend to seek clothes that I see creators from TikTok wear.
Q. When fashion trends change, do you change your choices in clothes?
A. I tend to change every so often, so if a fashion trend speaks out to me, I will follow it.
Q. What’s your current style?
A. I mostly wear casual such as jeans and t-shirts and sometimes for an aesthetic look, I go for a boot-cut jean and a vintage shirt.
