Dublin Jerome High School has a wide variety of clubs to choose from, a whole list, in fact. Everything from Chess Club to the Fencing Club. They’re a great way to learn about the school, and meet new people along the way. Among the list of clubs, there are also cabinets, and each grade level has one. It’s a great way to represent your class of students.
The Freshman (9th Grade) Cabinet, advised by Mrs. Bentley and Mrs. Dulin-Smith, is a leadership group that helps by holding fundraisers and cleaning up school events. Specifically, they clean up homecoming in the fall, getting paid $500 as a group for cleaning the dances. The members of the club, 12 this year, can also participate in fundraisers. They also have direct contact with the student council.
The club, or any of the cabinets, is a fantastic way to represent the school and grade level. There’s not only the Freshman Cabinet, there’s one for every grade level. If students couldn’t participate this year, the Sophomore Cabinet applications open up in August. Applying requires an application, teacher feedback, and an acceptance program. Most of the activity in the club is in the 1st quarter, which has since passed, but other meetings can occur later in the year based on events for fundraising.
Overall, if you like to help out and build a community within the school, the cabinet is a great decision. Since it’s halfway through the school year, and most of the activities have been completed, applications for the cabinets open in August, so go and check those out when it’s that time of year. Each year has a cabinet, and it looks great on a college application or resume.
Dulin-Smith emphasizes that “this is a great opportunity for students who want to and will help fundraise and participate. These students are representing the freshman class and begin to build up the account to hold an amazing event sophomore year.” She explains, “Students who do a great job in freshman cabinet may consider applying for sophomore cabinet too!”
If there are any questions to be asked about the club, contact one of the cabinet advisors.
