Dear First Grade Families,
It has truly been an honor being your child's teacher this school year! They all have grown and learned so much with the time we have had together. I am proud of all of their hard work. Please continue to encourage your child to learn and read this summer. It is so important for your child to continue their learning and reading this summer. Did you know the “summer slide” — a movement backwards from a lack of reading during the summer — causes children to forget nearly 22% of what they learned the year before, according to the National Summer Learning Association. I don’t want your child to lose that much growth over the summer break! Below are some instructions on how to access our summer learning! A lot of these activities can be done through free learning apps and also with some hands-on learning experiences. Your child will have access to ST Math, Math Games, Bridges Math Activities, Bookflix, PebbleGo, BrainPop Jr and GetEpic! I even uploaded a summer reading phonological awareness calendar. Your child will have access to any of the games and apps that we have been using throughout the school year as well. I highly encourage you and your child to visit our local library. They always have an amazing summer reading program. Your child will be sent home with their leadership binders. This will show you their growth in the 1st grade. You can see their independent reading level as well as counting and sight word progress. They still have goals to continue to work towards over the summer and into the 2nd grade. You can use this correlation chart to help you pick out appropriate books at the library or at a bookstore for your child to read. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me over the summer. If you do something fun and your child wants to share this experience with me you are more than welcome to email me! I am not only your child’s Kindergarten/1st Grade teacher but I am also here to support your child throughout their educational career. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I appreciate all of your help and support this year. I am so proud of your child and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for them! Way to go 1st Graders!
Instructions: Your child now has access to their learning through Clever, which allows students to log in with their Dublin username and password. Watch this video, which shows your child how to log in to ST Math through Clever.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weber
