In April of 2022, Dublin Scioto High School was recognized by the state of Ohio as a Purple Star School for its continued efforts to identify and support veterans and military connected students. "Military connected" students are students within the school who have or have ever had a family member serve in the US military. This recognition was extended this past April demonstrating the continued dedication by our amazing students and leaders.

We are proud of this recognition but even more excited about growing our commitment to the veterans and military connected students in our community. This commitment led to the formation of our "Purple Star Club."

Recent Events

Purple Star leaders hosted an area at the Dublin America 250 Memorial Day Picnic to remind all the meaning of Memorial Day. They displayed flags and projects related to Dublin service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. They also had a craft station for guests to fill out thank you cards, make goody bags, and paper poppies which will be shared with local veterans.

On Saturday May 16th Purple Star leaders helped host the Irreverent Warriors Silkie Hike! This amazing organization brings veterans together using humor and camaraderie to improve mental health and prevent Veteran suicide. Purple Star members provided goody bags, coffee, breakfast, snacks, and other items for those participating in the hike. They also created posters to welcome them back. Thank you to Sunny Street Cafe, Mrs. DeBenedictis, Mrs. Jackson, and Mr. Martin for their support.

Thank you to Mr. Boyer for helping grill of the Purple Star BBQ. This event allowed Purple Star members and veterans to enjoy lunch together.

Purple Star leaders celebrated military families all April long with a breakfast, ice cream social, luncheon, and Military Appreciation Baseball Game. Thank you to Sunny Street Cafe and the Irish Baseball boosters for making these event possible.

Purple Star leaders were invited to the National Veterans Memorial and Museum to meet and talk with TWO recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta and Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha.

Purple Star leaders held their 4th Annual Military Appreciation Basketball Game and dinner. We were HONORED to host over 15 veterans and their families for a spaghetti dinner, pregame recognition, and varsity basketball game. Thank you to Hot Mess catering for providing the amazing dinner as well as Coach Anderson and Boosters leader Ian Brown for all their efforts in making it a special evening.

Fall Events

Purple Star leaders Maya Falco and Zoe Lefferts shared their Inaugural Veteran Experience with the community. This Experience allows visitors to walk through the journey one goes through from the decision to serve, to boot camp, time in the military, and the transition back into civilian life. It is a collection of over 70 brave men and women with over 800 years of combined service to our nation.

Purple Star Club hosted its 12th Annual Veteran Story Event sharing and HONORING the stories of over 225 US service members.

Purple Star leaders Maya Falco, Zoe Lefferts, and Anna Norfleet presented to Dublin AM Rotary about their recent efforts with the Inaugural Veterans Experience and 12th Annual Veteran Story Event.

Purple Star Club hosted its Annual Powder Puff to support Veterans collecting considerable numbers of donations for helping feed military families at Thanksgiving.

Purple Star Club hosted its Military Appreciation Football Tailgate to honor veterans.

2nd Annual Veterans Experience

Experience the stories of over 85 military veterans dating back to WWI, with over 850 years of collective service to our nation. This interactive presentation shares the story of the decision, experience, and lessons learned from their US military service. This experience will be availble from November 4th-11th. 13th Annual Veterans Story Event

This humbling and inspiring evening will HONOR the stories of over 225 veterans through an opening ceremony, student presentations, and roundtable discussions with veterans from the community. This years event will take place from 3:30pm-6pm on Thursday November 5th at Dublin Scioto High School. Events & Activities Throughout the Year

*Purple Star Club is committed to recognizing, remembering, honoring, and supporting military members, veterans, and their families throughout the year. We host Military Appreciation Nights in the fall (football), winter (basketball), and spring (baseball). During the month of April we host a series of events - including breakfasts, lunches, an ice cream social, and spirit week. Throughout the year we send birthday and holiday cards to over 90 different military members/veterans and counting. Take time to review other amazing efforts below which are supported by Purple Star Club and the Scioto community in giving back to our military families.

Veteran Story Event 2024

Purple Star Club hosted the 11th Annual Veteran Story Event on Thursday November 7th -honoring the stories of over 200 brave men and women who have and continue to serve our nation.

We were also HONORED to have over 30 veterans share their stories directly with students, staff, and community leaders.

Purple Star Club - Mailing List

Purple Star Club sends out birthday cards, holiday cards, congratulation cards, get well cards, and more. To date over 1000 cards have been mailed to active military, veterans, and their families all over the country, and around the world.

Sponsor an American flag in recognition, remembrance, and honor of a family member or friend.

Flags will be displayed at several events throughout the year including our Veterans Story Event and military appreciation nights. Each flag you sponsor will have a tag for your to write a note in honor of the veteran and include a certificate recognizing your sponsorship. Proceeds from the sponsorships will be used to fund "Purple Star Club" efforts to recognize, remember, honor, and support veterans and military connected students.

Purpose

The purpose of our Purple Star Club is undertake efforts which seek to recognize, remember, honor, and support our veterans and their families.

What We Do

The staff, students, and community members linked to Dublin Scioto High School undertake a number of efforts throughout the year in order to recognize, remember, honor, and support our veterans and their families. These include:

*We offer support for our military connected students which can be found on the Dublin Scioto Dublin Scioto webpage.

*We recognize, remember, and honor our veterans by hosting annual "Military Appreciation Night" sporting and extracurricular activities.

*We recognize, remember, and honor our veterans in November with our annual Veteran Story Event.

*We remember and honor veterans throughout the year by sending cards and care packages all over the world.

*We remember and support homeless and low income veterans throughout the year by collecting toiletries, toys, clothing, blankets and more to assist them.

*We recognize, remember, and honor veterans in our building and the community with breakfasts and other social gatherings.

*We recognize and support future military members by participating in the districts annual military commencement ceremony.

*We recognize, remember, and honor alum and staff in our building by maintaining a military appreciation board in our main hallway.

*Veterans or family members of veterans are encouraged to share information (of veterans) so we can recognize, remember, honor, and support them during future activities. Whether it is a birthday card of a care package we want to let them know we appreciate them.

*Consider making a donation to support future efforts to recognize, remember, honor, and support veterans and their families.
