Morning Meeting and Small Group Work

9:00 - 9:40

We take this time as a class to meet and review our day. We also use this time to share out interests and help foster relationships with one another.

Word Study

9:45 - 10:15

Our word study this year will focus on:

  • High Frequency words

  • Specific spelling patterns

  • Vocabulary (synonyms, homonyms, compound words, contractions etc.)

Reading Workshop

10:15 - 11:00

Second graders will read a great deal of nonfiction and a variety of literature including fables and folktales from many cultures. In second grade there is a strong focus on skills and strategies that will lead to increased student comprehension of the material they have read. Students use these strategies to better comprehend their reading in all content areas.

Math Workshop

In Dublin City Schools, we believe that all students deserve a mathematical learning experience centered around communication, collaboration, thinking and problem solving.

Writing Workshop

1:25 - 2:00

The students will be writing Personal Narratives, Opinion and Informational pieces in second grade. Some of the writings they will compose this year will include: Small Moment stories, Persuasive Letters, Biography and Animal Research, as well as multiple different opportunities to respond to literature.


Movement Break/Extra Recess

2:00 - 2:15

We are ready for some movement at this time! We will use it to stretch out legs and continue to foster relationships with others.

We gather together and the students listen to me read a chapter book. We practice comprehension strategies while reading aloud.
