The Role of the School Counselor

The goal of the DWE School Counseling Department is to assist student in being prepared for life after school personally, socially, and vocationally. This goal is emphasized through three different domains:

Personal and Social Development:

The school counselor also works with students in order to help them through emotional, personal, and social roadblocks that may be interfering with their ability to thrive academically. The school counselor does not provide therapy, but can assist with these concerns by meeting with students individually, in groups, or through developmental classroom lessons. The school counselor can also refer students and families to community resources for additional support, as well as collaborate with any outside services received in order to best help the student in the school environment.

Academic Achievement:

The school counselor works with students and faculty to ensure that each student receives an equitable learning environment in which individual needs are being met in order for maximum success to be attainable.

Career Development:

The school counselor assists students in understanding the connection between education, interests, passion, and the world of work. This is done through developmental classroom lessons focusing on interests, goals, and the path that one takes to achieve their dream careers. We will be making these connections throughout the year culminating with a career week at the end of the year.
