HOW TO CONDUCT MY INVESTIGATION/RESEARCH

DATABASES VS THE OPEN INTERNET

If you are researching how social media affects teens' self-confidence, a good search would be "social media" AND "teen self confidence"

Most databases will allow you to send an article to your Google Drive.

Databases will give you the citation for the article.

Library Databases

Go to infohio.org, then click 6-8, then click the orange box that says Explora.

Go to infohio.org, then click 6-8, then click the green box that says Grades 6-8 INFOhio eBooks and Videos.

Do NOT use Boolean operators or quotation marks with the eBooks and Videos database above. It's a unique database - just type social media or the keyword you are using.

Go to infohio.org, then click 6-8, then click the blue box that says Point of View Reference Source.

Go to infohio.org, then click 6-8, then click the green box that says World Book Student.

The Open Internet

Use LATERAL READING to make sure the site you are using is from a trustworthy source (lateral reading means opening another tab and looking for information about the source of the website you want to use).

Use good searching skills - go to "Tools" on the results page to narrow down the search by time or other limiters.

AI - Magic School

Go to Clever to access MagicSchool, then use code jybinA to enter the research room.

Beware! The output you get from AI is using predictive language. It can make things up - these are called hallucinations! You need to ask AI for its sources and then use lateral reading to verify those sources!
