In Dublin City Schools, we believe that all students deserve a mathematical learning experience centered around communication, collaboration, thinking and problem solving.
We believe that students need a variety of exposure to different texts. They will engage in a variety of reading experiences that include whole group learning, independent reading, and small group instruction. Literature used in the third grade classroom will include a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, myths and books from a series.
Students will be introduced to a variety of strategies to enhance critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. They will also be asked to support their thinking with evidence while recognizing multiple points of view. Producing organized writing appropriate to the task and purpose is a goal for third graders. Students will present their knowledge through formal and informal speaking as well as writing and digital formats.
Focus on producing narrative, informational, and argumentative writings.
This is our second year implementing Phonics 95! In third grade, we are building and enhancing students' vocabulary, as well as their knowledge of various spelling patterns, will be a critical focus. We will explore our study of words through Phonics 95, word & sentence observations, word connections, and by building independent spelling strategies.
Focus on phonics, vocabulary, and grammar.
Earth and Space Science (Earth's Resources): We will focus on living and nonliving resources, such as water, air, rock, soil, and the energy resources they represent.
