Classroom Routines
Math Workshop
Math Workshop will entail communication, collaboration, thinking, and problem solving. We will be using Bridges in Mathematics to support our learning! This year we will study:
Multiplication & Division to 10 x 10
Fractions
Structure of rectangular arrays and of area
Describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes
Solving multi-step problems
Reading Workshop
Our focus for the year will be literature, informational text, and fluent reading. Below is a daily breakdown of this time.
Mini Lesson: 10-15 mins
Independent Reading: 40-45 mins
During this time, I will meet with students individually or in guided/shared groups to support reading goals
Share & Reflect: 5-10 mins (whole class)
Writing Workshop
Third graders will produce narrative, informational, and opinion writings this year.
Word Study
Our focus will primarily be on phonics and spelling patterns with an understanding of common spelling rules. It is important for 3rd graders to flexibly apply, connect, and transfer word knowledge & spelling patterns within reading and writing.
Science Inquiry
The big focus in 3rd grade is Matter. Matter makes up all substances on Earth. Students will learn about earth resources, forms of energy , and behavior/growth/changes of living things.
Social Studies
The local community is the focal point for third grade as students begin to understand how their communities have changed over time and to make comparisons with communities in other places. The study of local history comes alive through artifacts and documents. Students will also learn how communities are governed and how the local economy is organized.
