Reading Workshop focuses on reading foundational skills with an emphasis on literature and informational text. Comprehension, phonics, word recognition, fluency, and speaking/listening are all elements of our reading workshop. Five core areas of word study have been identified to provide focus for instructional planning and word learning as addressed throughout the year:

5- Vocabulary and Word Structure
* These five core areas of word study are emphasized during daily lessons using 95 Phonics , our district-adopted program.

Third Graders will focus on exploring the components of various systems and then investigate dynamic and sustainable relationships within systems using scientific inquiry. Students will learn about the Earth’s resources, matter, forms of energy and behavior, growth and changes of living things.

The local community serves as the focal point for third grade as students begin to understand how their communities have changed over time and to make comparisons with communities in other places. The study of local history comes alive through the use of artifacts and documents. They also learn how communities are governed and how the local economy is organized.
