Prof. Dinesh Kumar is working as Faculty in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Delhi Technological University (DTU) (Erstwhile Delhi College of Engineering). Prior to his joining DTU in 2018, he served Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) (A Haryana State Government University), Hisar, Haryana in various capacities as Reader (1997-2005), Associate Professor (2006-2009), and Professor (2009-2018). He was with Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST) (A Haryana State Government University) ( Erstwhile C. R. State College of Engineering), Murthal, Sonipat, Haryana and worked there as a Lecturer (1992-1997). Before his joining DCRUST, he also served, though for a very short span of time, the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) (Erstwhile Technical Teachers' Training Institute), Chandigarh as a Lecturer (1992).

He did his B.Tech. ECE (Hons.) from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) (Formerly Regional Engineering College), Kurukshetra in 1990 and M. Tech. (ECE) (Gold Medal) from the same institute in 1992. He did his Ph.D. at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi in 2009.
