Training Overview
The Department of Social Welfare and Development implemented the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) in partnership with the local government units and non-government organizations, as part of the Department’s contribution to the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program of the government and to address malnutrition specifically undernutrition. Other sectors and individuals are also involved, from the national down to the local levels. At the barangay level, the Child Development Workers (CDWs) are the prime movers of the Supplementary Feeding Program.
Among the core individuals that deserve attention in terms of training and capacity building are the Child Development Workers (CDWs). They are one of the most viable and potent manpower available in the barangays to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the Supplementary Feeding Program. They manage and document SFP programs at the barangay level. They are in charge of weighing and monitoring of children beneficiaries at the start of the feeding and completion of 120 feeding days to determine improvement and sustenance in their nutritional status. Baseline and endline nutritional status reports are being submitted immediately before and after the feeding activities.
The continuing enhancement of knowledge and skills of CDWs on SFP implementation ensures them to deliver their tasks efficiently and effectively, thus this training is proposed.
