Delta currently sponsors multiple programs designed to promote the development of young girls and boys. These include, but are not limited to, Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, and EMBODI (collectively “youth initiatives”). In order for any person to volunteer with our Youth Programs, they must complete the necessary steps to complete the Risk Management process. Please review the information below regarding the Volunteer and Risk Management process.
Adults over the age of 18 can volunteer with RHA's youth programs as long as they complete the Risk Management Volunteer protocol and receive approval from the Chapter's Risk Management Coordinator.
Be 18 years of age or older
Complete the volunteer application and screening process
Undergo and pass a criminal background check using Delta's approved background check vendor (required every 3 years)
Complete Risk Management Training on an annual basis
Sign and abide by the Youth Initiative Code of Conduct
Be able to recognize signs and symptoms of child abuse/neglect
Abide by Delta's mandatory reporting policy
Meet the time requirements and job duties as directed by RHA
It is the policy of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. that every potential volunteer for any Youth Initiatives Programs be screening by the Chapter. As a part of the screening process, you are are required to:
Complete the Volunteer Screening Application
Consent to a background screening, which includes (1) state and/or federal criminal background check(s) and (2) search of state and federal sex offender registries
Provide two personal references
Provide a copy of your drivers license or state issued identification
Complete a personal interview
Notify the Chapter immediately if convicted of an offense at any time after submitting the application
You may only begin volunteering AFTER SUCCESSFULY completing the background screening process, required training process, and have received approval from the RHA Risk Management Coordinator.
Risk Management is important because it:
Ensures the safety of all participants in our youth programs
Protects the people, property, income, and reputation of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Proactively evaluates the allocation of resources
Allows us to focus on the enrichment of our youth program participants
Focuses on prevention
Risk Management policies and guidelines for youth programs include, but are not limited to the following:
Accident procedures
Allergies, illnesses, and special needs
Medications
Behavior and Code of Conduct
Drop off and pick up procedures
Parent/guardian participation requirements
Transportation
Supervision
Photography
