The Texas Bluebonnet Award is one of the most prestigious children’s choice literary awards in the U.S. Each year, 20 books are selected for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List—and our students get to take part in choosing the winner! At Walnut Springs, students will have the CHOICE to read 17 of the 20 books on the list.
Here’s how the challenge works:
Read 5 books by the end of January and you’ll get to VOTE for this year’s Texas Bluebonnet Award winner. Voting will take place the first week of February.
Read 7 books by April 17th AND complete either our R.E.A.D. Graphic Organizer (for each book) or an activity (for each book) from the Bluebonnet Book Menu, and you’ll be invited to the Bluebonnet Party in May! 🎉
Be sure to use the reading checklist to keep track of your books. Reading can be done with a parent, teacher, friend, or even by listening to the audiobook—all reading counts!
Books are available in our school library and at the community library.
Students can turn in finished activities throughout the year...no need to hold onto all of them until April.
We can’t wait to see which books our students read and which one they vote for as the winner!
