Hello Walnut Families!

As we anticipate the forecasted cold weather for the coming week, please keep in mind the DSISD Cold Weather Guidelines.

The spring semester is full of activities and events. Please refer to the Upcoming Important Dates section of this newsletter for the most up-to-date happenings!

On February 3, our third grade students will take part in a Reading Stand-Alone Field Test. This field test allows students to gain experience with the testing format while providing valuable feedback for future STAAR assessments.

Join us for Leadership Day where our students will showcase what it means to be Cool, Kind, and Leading the Way through our Leader in Me journey!

February 5, 2026 from 8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Guests are invited to attend a welcoming assembly, tour classrooms, and check out how our students lead in action at different areas around our school. From teamwork and responsibility to kindness and confidence, you'll see how our students are growing into leaders - every day, in every way. Please complete this Leadership Day RSVP form by February 2, 2026 @3pm, if you plan to attend. Thank you!

***Parents, please note: Leadership Day is not the same as Student Led Conferences. Student Led Conferences will be held on May 12 for all students during grade-level WIN times in their classrooms.

Kids Club pick-up starts at 3:30 p.m.
Afternoon transportation changes should be submitted to the front office by 1:00 p.m.
When picking up early, please try to pick your child up before 2:30 p.m. if possible.
The school zone is a no cell phone zone
Please do not use or park on Peabody Place or the bus lane behind the school for thru traffic.
Please do not park in front of DSMS along Tiger Lane.
Please do not cut through the Whim shopping center parking lot.
Just a note, our staff uses a traffic system that requires them to be on their phones to account for students during dismissal.
