DSMS is hosting UIL Academics for 2023-2024! 

What does that mean? The host district for the year brings 7 schools together for the 2 days of competition. DSISD is the host for 2023-2024. Competing schools are: Bee Cave MS, Hill Country MS, Hudson Bend MS, Dripping Springs MS, Lake Travis MS, Sycamore Springs MS, and Westridge MS. 

What is UIL Academics? UIL Academics is a program that provides students with the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills in various academic subjects. Participating in UIL Academics allows students to engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. It also helps them develop their communication and presentation skills. The program fosters a spirit of healthy competition and encourages students to strive for excellence in their chosen fields of study. Overall, UIL Academics is an enriching experience that promotes academic growth and personal development.

When is the competition? There are two days of competition: Wednesday, March 20, 2024, and Saturday, April 13, 2024.  Both days will be held at Dripping Springs MS.

What are the events offered? The events offered are listed below. Students may only sign up for one event on Wednesday and one event on Saturday, unless otherwise approved by the coach of the event.

Who can compete? Each event is for 6th-8th grade. A full team includes 3 students from 6th grade, 3 from 7th grade, and 3 from 8th grade.

When are practices? Practices are during tutorials (8:30-8:55), unless otherwise chosen by the coach. Practices are no more than 1 day a week. They typically begin after the winter break.

What happens if students place? The top 3 placers in each event are awarded medals. Ribbons are awarded to students that place in 4th-6th place.

To celebrate and show appreciation for participation, students will be invited to the end of year UIL party in May.
