This monthly newsletter is your gateway to all the exciting happenings in our school library. Inside, you'll find updates on new book arrivals, upcoming events, student highlights, and resources to support young readers and their families. Our goal is to foster a love of reading, encourage curiosity, and create a space where every student feels inspired to learn and grow through books.
This month, our students are continuing to find new and exciting reading material in the CL&I. We were thrilled to open our Audio Books and Wonderbooks (grades 2-5) for checkout. These materials are a great way to children to engage with literature in different ways. Want to learn more about Wonderbooks? Click here!
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders spent time reading The Couch Potato by Jory John, reviewing our Acceptable Use Policy for device use at school and brainstorming ways we can balance device time with other healthy choices at home. They also read Gustavo, the Shy Ghost by Flavia Z. Drago this month! They completed simple circuits to make Gustavo's heart GLOW and used our DSE Chomp Saws to create their own cardboard ghosts! We love seeing their creativity shine!
Our PK, Kinder, 1st and 2nd graders also worked together to brainstorm ways to take breaks from screens when needed. Together, we read Blackout by John Rocco. We also read Gustavo, the Shy Ghost by Flavia Z. Drago and some of our children used Chatterpix to bring a drawing of Gustavo to life! They used their voices to share their favorite books.
PK and Kinder students are invited to check out 1 book per visit.
1st and 2nd graders are invited to check out up to 2 books per visit.
3rd, 4th and 5th graders are invited to check out up to 3 books per visit.
Our students are showing tremendous creativity and ingenuity in the MakerSpace. We love seeing our children blossom in this space!
Our PK-2nd graders read Bear's Lost Glasses in the MakerSpace and explored with microscopes, while others designed glasses of their own. They also changed squiggle drawings into something new, matching the character's experience in the story.
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders read Stumpkin and used spoons and popsicle sticks to create their own pumpkin launchers.
All of our students at DSE learned a bit about Dia de los Muertos and created things like marigolds, maracas and other beautiful creations using tools like Lite Brites.
We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair! This event is the perfect opportunity to discover new books and support our school library.
Dates: November 10th-November 13th
Hours: Your child’s class has an assigned time to shop
Location: DSE CL&I
This year, we are teaming up with the DSE Fall Fest! Families are invited to visit the CL&I during the DSE Fall Fest on Saturday, November 8th from 2:00pm-5:00pm and shop for new books together! We will also have some special guests from the DS Community Library hosting a virtual reality station in our MakerSpace. We hope to see you there!
eWallet
Click here if you would like to set up an eWallet for your child. This is the safest, easiest and most convenient way for your child to shop for books at the fair. Using an eWallet eliminates the need for cash and any unused funds can be rolled over to our next Book Fair! It’s like a book bank account!

We can’t wait to see you there. Happy reading!
We were so grateful to have a special visit from Kristen Currie at KXAN! She visited with our morning announcement team and our students that lead Friday assemblies. She gave great tools to make public speaking easier and feel more natural. We are so grateful for her time and attention to help our leaders grow! She even gave DSE a special shout-out on the KXAN morning broadcast the following week!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us this month for Books and Breakfast! We had a great turn out and it was wonderful to start the day reading together!
We love seeing student creativity shine at DSE! Our students are taking the initiative and creating their own comic strips and bookmarks to share with students across the campus! Students are welcome to submit their creations in the CL&I, which are then shared out with the community!
