Hello! My name is Maria Hosey and this will be my 7th year at Wycallis Primary Center, but my 21st year at the Dallas School District. I find teaching extremely gratifying and a tremendous amount of fun! I grew up and currently reside in Dallas. In fact, my first school memories were right here at the Dallas Township School, which at the time was housed in the red brick township building that has since been demolished. This will be my 26th year teaching! I have taught every grade from Kindergarten through sixth grade in some capacity. Half of my career was spent teaching 5th grade at the Dallas Elementary School and in Vermont. Since 2010, I have been a Reading Specialist in grades K-5. I have worked with K-2 for the past 11 years. I am passionate about early literacy and the science behind learning to read. Learning to read absolutely fascinating! I hope you enjoy the journey your child is about to partake in learning to read!
I graduated from Mount Saint Mary's College in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and from King's College in 2010 with a master's degree in reading. Prior to teaching at Dallas, I worked for five years as a fifth grade classroom teacher and a sixth grade science (another passion of mine) teacher in Vermont.
I am married and have four sons! Rory, Charley, and Oliver are all students in the Dallas School District. My oldest son, Max, is currently a sophmore in college. I love kids, motherhood, science, reading, music, helping my husband with the Back Mountain Bandits. gardening, skiing, and generally being creative. I am looking forward to a great year, and can't wait to meet and get to know my new students!
