Skilled Trades, Apprenticeships, OYAP

Are you interested in the skilled trades?  Are you hoping to get an apprenticeship in your area of interest?  Or, looking to secure a gainful employment opportunity?

"Ontario's demand for workers in the trades is on the rise, and we want to attract more young and talented people into the exciting and challenging world of trades," said Minister McNaughton. "Becoming an ironworker or a sprinkler fitter should be as obvious as becoming a firefighter or a lawyer. Our government is committed to ensuring that all young people across the province have the resources they need to acquire the skills and knowledge they need to get good jobs."

If going into a skilled trade is something you might be thinking about, there are many resources to help you get started.  One place to start is OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program).  OYAP is a high school program that allows you to try a huge variety of apprenticeship-based careers in skilled trades, starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the Cooperative Education program.

Office to Advance Women Apprentices

We work to promote the skilled trades as a career choice for young women.  Even though there are more than 1.2 million constructions workers - women represent only about 4% of the people working in the construction trades.
