Criteria:

1. the candidate must intend to enroll in an eligible program at one of the participating Canadian universities in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (“STEM”) areas of study;

2. the candidate must be a Canadian citizen; and

3. the candidate must meet the following criteria:

   • an intention to pursue a career in one or more of the following focus areas: (A) technology; (B) engineering; (C) entrepreneurship and business enterprise; and (D) applied scientific research, constituting research into questions posed by scientific theories and hypotheses with potential commercial or other practical applications, but specifically excluding medical research (as described in greater detail below) or purely theoretical research;

   • leadership in STEM innovation as opposed to environmental, political, or social activism;

   • the candidate has indicated that they DO NOT intend to become a practicing physician and/or medical researcher (medical research constitutes research conducted to aid and support the development of knowledge in the field of medicine); and

   • demonstration of entrepreneurial-minded leadership (in school or community).  In addition,  strong consideration will be given to the candidate’s demonstration of financial need.
