Here are the details about how Team Tournaments work:
Teams of 4 (NO solo players... tell them to make friends. If one player is absent they may NOT participate, so encourage students to choose their teammates wisely.)
2 Divisions: Juniors (all players gr 9 & 10) and Seniors (all players gr. 11 & 12),
If the team contains a mix, they play-up in the Seniors.Teams are matched against each other where the two best players play each other, the 2nd best players play,... the lowest ranked two players play. The ranking (1 = best ... 4 = worst) within each team is determined by players' ratings.
Win, Loss, or Draw points are awarded to the team, not individual players. The team that wins the majority of the 4 games gets the point. If each team won two games, half a point is awarded for each team.
Example Scenario 1) Team Awesome wins two games, loses one game, and draws the fourth. This means their individual win points tally to 2.5 out of 4 games, and therefore they get the full 1 point as a team.
Example Scenario 2) Team Okay wins 1 game and draws 2 games and loses 1 game. This means their individual wins total to 2 out of 4 games and therefore the team draws with the other team... 0.5 point for each team.Prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams of both divisions based on Team points.
Students’ chess ratings will change based on their individual game results, not the team result.
This means that you can have a superstar player go undefeated but never get a single point because his team loses. This player’s rating would will go up, but they wouldn’t get a prize.
