Work hard to get the best grades you can. Work harder to make those grades the least interesting thing about you.

We have a unique opportunity at our camp that I think will be fun and valuable for students who are looking to volunteer this summer. Our Counsellor in Training (CIT) program runs for two weeks in the summer, once in July, and once in August. Here is a breakdown of how the CIT program works at Camp Wetaskiwin:
Week 1: CITs meet one another and the Day Camp staff they will be volunteering with during the second week. Week 1 focuses on learning relevant job skills (resume building, leadership styles, interview prep, etc.) while also taking part in camp activities (swimming, archery, shelter building, hiking, etc.). The goal of Week 1 is to teach leadership skills, get everyone comfortable at the camp and with the activities, and train them for their responsibilities in Week 2.
Week 2: CITs will be assigned a Day Camp Leader who they will shadow and help throughout the week. Each Day Camp Leader has 6-8 campers in their group on any given day. Our volunteers will help with camp activities, games, and crafts. They will have the opportunity to mentor our younger campers and guide them through the day.
Any students who volunteer and may be interested in working at Camp Wetaskiwin in the future will automatically receive an interview when they apply in future years. Our CIT program is designed for students aged 13-15 as a segway between being a camper and working as staff.
