DAT2021 TIMELINE

DAT2021 will be partnering a few agencies known as the DXPs to run parallel competition (DATx).
Top 2 entries from each DATx will compete with the shortlisted Data Arcade Tournament entries at the Semi-Finals judging stage.

DATA SETS

Section A: Data Sets by WOGAA

GovTech’s Whole of Government Application Analytics (WOGAA) data set* will be made available to all Arcade Mode participants for the purpose of the tournament upon successful registration.

*Additional rules may apply.

Section B: Data Sets available on Snowflake

All Arcade Mode/ DATx competition’s teams are entitled to a Snowflake account to explore how they may tap on the datasets available on the Data Warehouse for the Competition.

Section C: Data Sets from Trusted Centres (TC) - For DATx participants only

A wide range of data are available from the Trusted Centres. Namely DOS, Geospace and Sensors.

As part of the Government Data Architecture (GDA), these TCs facilitates access to Government data across WOG. In conjunction with the Data Arcade Tournament, TC data sets are made available for participants to be used for the purpose of the tournament.

Discover and explore data by helping yourself to the metadata and synthetic datasets available on Vault (vault.gov.sg - accessible only via intranet machine).

2020’s Data Arcade Tournament: a showcase of visual analytics talents ...

This year’s Data Arcade Tournament (DAT) has been the largest since its inception in 2018. Conceived to help public officers get familiarised (and comfortable) with data analytics and visualisation using tools such as Qlik Sense and Tableau, 2020’s event saw 400 teams competing against one another. For reference, last year’s tournament involved just 144 teams.

Using Data Science for Social Good

Hundreds of public officers took part in the Data Arcade Tournament 2019, a second year running of the visual analytics competition within the Singapore Public Service. The competition concluded with a 5-hour live hackathon with finalist teams presenting their insights that could promote volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore. A picture says a thousand words. This is indeed true with visual analytics.

What we learnt from GovTech’s Data Arcade Tournament

Data analytics and visualisation are becoming essential skills of the 21st Century. At the Data Arcade Tournament organised by GovTech, public officers competed to derive meaningful insights from a real-world dataset. From knowing their audience to appreciating a diversity of perspectives, participants picked up important lessons on using data for public good.
