Phone Number Paradox
Description: The Phone Number Paradox is a probabilistic experiment that estimates the likelihood that at least two individuals in a group share the same last digit of their phone numbers. This paradox illustrates how a surprisingly high probability of overlap can occur with relatively small group sizes, despite a limited number of possible outcomes (digits 0-9).
Steps:
1. Random Assignment: Each person in a group of n people is randomly assigned a last digit from 0 to 9.
2. Check for Duplicates: Determine if any two people in the group have the same last digit.
3. Simulate: Repeat the process for a large number of simulations (e.g., 10,000 times) to estimate the probability.
4. Calculate Probability: Calculate the proportion of simulations where at least two people share the same last digit.
Outcome: The experiment typically reveals that even with a small group size, the probability of at least one pair sharing the same last digit is higher than one might intuitively expect.
