WHAT IS CHEMVAS?

The ChemVAS class at Drew is a collaborative STEAM course that merges Chemistry and Visual Arts, and it is taken by all 10th-grade students. Dr. Kristina Garner teaches Chemistry, while Dr. David Kurt instructs Visual Art. In the art portion of the class, students focus on mastering the Georgia Visual Arts Standards, which cover key areas such as creation, presentation, response, and connection in art. The course utilizes Project-Based Learning to ensure the material is engaging and relevant. We emphasize the importance of technology in both modern art and education. At times, we use art to explore and express our understanding of chemistry, while at other times, we examine the chemistry behind art itself.
