Get To Know Me 

Mikera S Collins 

Georgia Piedmont Technical College 

Hello, my name is Mikera Collins, and I am from Atlanta Georgia. I go to Charles R drew charter school. And I am attending Georgia piedmont as a dual enrollment student. The class I will be taking is early childhood. I am seventeen and I am currently just living life.  

I am a cheerleader, and my favorite color is purple. I love to go to the movies and skate with my friends during my free time. I have a brother who is two years old, and I love him so much. He is the reason that I have decided that working with little kids is fun and can be something I do. 

I think watching my brother grow and develop all diverse types of skills. Makes me enjoy my time with him even more. During my 10th grade year of high school, I had to watch my brother for a while I was doing virtual school because he was just born, and he could not go to school yet. And my mom had to go back to work so of course she really did not have money for a babysitter. So, for that year he was with me. I feed him and bathe him every day. Of course, I had to change his diapers and help him clean up from when he was done playing with his toys. I was doing what an average mom would do when she was to stay home with her baby. And watching him get up and try to speak and walk was so exciting. It would also be times where we could be in the living room, and we would be watching tv and he would sing the theme song to a tv show and light up.  He also loves dancing and playing with dinosaurs. I have never seen such fascination in it and seeing it in him makes me laugh and love him even more. Me watching him throughout that year made me grow so much closer to him and I love our bond because of it. So, I feel me being a teacher to younger children will be good for me so I can get close with the younger generation and help them to grow big, smart, and strong. I want to be able for them to say I taught them right from wrong and I was to be a good influence and leave this world with somebody remembering my name in an effective way. I am not sure if it is what I want to do as a career but if it is anything like running behind a little sibling like mine then I might just do good. 

Being around kids is an incredibly good thing for me because I need something to get my mind off the world. Also, it is something that nobody else in my family has done before and I want to be able to show the diversity in my life. Show my family that it is more than just working a job just to make a living and that you can enjoy your job as well as making money. Also, it is possible to be with my brother more as he goes through his toddler stages.
