In our AP Language class, we have been working on our “Connecting Threads Project.” In this project, we were challenged to select an abstract concept that is essential to our existence. After careful consideration, lots of research, carefully scouting sources, and constructing complex central claims. These claims then stated our opinions and detailed the complexity of the concepts within our daily lives. To further express our thoughts, we wrote argumentative essays that used quotes and ideas from our resources and provided original commentary that utilized different writing techniques such as anecdotes, figurative language, and literary devices to help sway our audience's opinions. Finally, we sketched designs that visually connected our projects and used cardboard to create a prototype of what we wanted to build. We used Inkscape to draw out our prototype virtually, and next semester we’ll create wood versions of our prototypes.
For my project, I selected the topic of “The Environment.” This is such an interesting topic because of how the environment impacts us and the world around us, but it seems as if we don’t care about the drastic changes it’s been going through and how that’ll affect us in the future. I was inspired to write about this topic because of the recent renewed conversation. I learned so much about the complexities of climate change, how climate change has already begun impacting some of the most vulnerable populations, the mental and physical effects climate change has on people, and how our governments will have to adjust to help curb climate change.
In conclusion, although climate change is a scary topic that revolves around the uncertainty of our future on this planet, it’s a meaningful conversation that will lead to tangible change that will not only improve our lives but the lives of future generations to come. Next semester, I look forward to taking an even deeper dive into the environment, and learning more about what we can do to help.
In AP Language class, we have been learning about the Romantic Era. This era started the period of writing that expressed feelings, individualism, and love. It also ushered in sub era of dark romanticism, which was inspired by irrational paranormal, demonic, and grotesque. One of these dark romanticism authors is Emily Dickinson, who is considered one of the greatest poets of all time. Her poetry revolves around death, society, home, the afterlife, and much more. We were tasked with analyzing some of her poems and then reading them to a guitar recording in class. Here is our recording; enjoy!
