In American Literature, we studied the mythology of Native American Cultures, including "The World on a Turtle's Back" by the Iroquois, and Coyote Stories from the Okanogan tribes. We learned about traits of creation myths, the use of archetypes, such as the Trickster, and techniques such as anthropomorphism. To display what we learned, we wrote and produced our own Original Creation Myths to explain the existence of at least one thing. We had to include at least one trickster character and an anthropomorphic character
The main character of my myth is Achia, a hawk the seeks to get the stories from the moon. It takes place long ago when the moon was closer to the earth. You could go between them by fishing line (called the moon line). It explains why the moon is so far away, why red-tailed hawks have red tails, why tides exist & how we got stories.
For my added artistic element, I decided to draw. I drew with old markers & highlighters. The scenes that I depicted are of Achia & Mia (the dolphin guardian of the moon line) & Oulaba (keeper of the stories) hanging out in their keep. The coloring style for the first scene of Achia & Mia was inspired by various native american art pieces I've seen
For our Emily Dickinson Poetry Music Score we we tasked to create accompanying music to an Emily Dickinson poem. The poem we chose is called Because I could not stop for Death. Our score uses the three chord structure of Am, F, G. This creates a foreboding atmosphere which ties in the the poem's themes about death. Even though the poem has a relatively positive outlook on death, it still bring up anxiety in many people, which is why we chose these chords
