The assignment was to compare the structure and function of a typical neuron to the structure and function of parts of a tree. Then to write a paragraph comparing and contrasting a neuron to a tree with academic language and addressing both structure and function.
Dendrites and dendritic spines are similar to the leaves and branches of a tree. The dendritic spines and leaves receive and transmit signals. The spines receive synaptic input, and the dendrites transmit the electrical signals. The leaves of a tree capture sunlight and produce food through photosynthesis, and the branches transmit or transport the nutrients. The bark of a tree is a barrier protecting against environmental elements. The myelin sheath of the neuron is a protective and insulating layer around the axon. While they have differences, they both are a protective layer around the "shaft" of their structures. The axon of a neuron is for transmitting electrical impulses, and the trunk of a tree provides structural support. Both the trunk of a tree and the axon connect everything, allowing transmission and transportation to occur. The roots of a tree absorb water and nutrients while the axon terminal releases neurotransmitters. Both the roots and axon terminal are essential for spreading, growth, and communication.
For this assignment, we had to work in small groups to create a song, rap, or poem that incorporates at least 10 of the major muscle groups in a creative and intellectual way.
I would lose my auditory system, you can always get hearing aids and you can be dying without knowing for everything else except vision.
For this assignment, my partner and I were instructed to create an instructive slide presentation and a worksheet focusing on one of the eight human senses. We chose the auditory system and made eight informative slides on how it works, including a worksheet and an educational game.
