A visual that is representative of the course we will engage in, and the prototype to be created.
A brief of exactly what we'll be doing and learning along the course of the project
The constraints are here to remind us of the elements and principles of design and ideals of craftsmanship in order to develop the best model possible.
Mine individually was measured as 3 inches due to an accident, but we reviewed in class how to take accurate measurements efficiently,
Each of them take an idea or a visual concept, and replace certain parameters of them with the objects that you need.
Emphasis, by having the focal point be a bright orange color in contrast to the rest of the objects.
Each of them take an idea or a visual concept, and replace certain parameters of them with the objects that you need.
Movement, it genuinely captures the sensory feeling of a man being tense while in a defensive position.
Each of them take an idea or a visual concept, and replace certain parameters of them with the objects that you need.
Repetition, the repetition and symmetry of the holes with pencils inside of the porcupine organizer becomes both visually and aesthetically pleasing.
Variety, a range of colors for the edges of the pencils.
I drew an eye using only diamonds and straight lines. The drawing upholds shape and simulates value by increasing the concentration of lines as an area becomes darker.
When drawing the first model I wanted to deliberately construct a model that'd genuinely house the most frequently used small items within my room. Such as my phone, my special pencil, ink pen, and digital art tablet pen, my phone, etc. The inspiration for the frontal drawer was the wooden drawer in my room.
The prototype itself is 7 inches tall and 5.4 inches wide. Has of course 6 compartments for:
Phone
Miscellaneous Objects(Drawer)
Misc. Objects and Writing Utensils(Cubby on Top)
Writing Utensils(3 Cubbies on Left Side of Organizer)
As you can see in the 3d drawing, because there is a container on each side of this cubic design, the top view is the only way to capture each compartment within the image. More often than not using sides measuring to be 3" or 4".
Repetition of shape and lengths. There are a lot of squares and sides measured to be 3 and 4 inches.
As stated by the teacher, my craftsmanship was off, in terms of cleanliness of look. Particularly the way I glued together the sides of the box on top and the glue exceeds the boundaries of the internal edges. And the brown box, since it was reused from another part of the project is brown in contrast to the white of everything else.
It is nearly the same model as the first. I also figured that I'd decorate it with drawings or "doodles". The drawings on the phone compartment follow a pattern in size and direction all being icons of something that I am interested in.
I changed the top box to look slightly cleaner and match the color of the rest of the model. I used inner tape rather than outer glue.
Initially I was wondering if the tape alone would hold the weight of the items, especially my phone, but after I tested them, it proved the concept of tension providing strength to be true. The tape is indeed placed in a manner that when the parts are tugged against they build tension so the model holds together. But of course, if I were to leave it there for longer than a couple days, (from experience I know that) it will begin to tear.
The brief was provided to us by our teacher, the prompt being an organizer that'd be most beneficial to each student. So in turn, I was able to speculate all of the items in my room that I'd need to hold within my organizer, such as my phone, writing utensils, etc. I was also able to conduct research alongside the class discovering many models that were already developed and highly unique and interesting. Utilizing both my desire for efficient organization and the research collected I devised a draft blueprint of the model. I had already bared in mind using a pull-out drawer, a compartment to both hold my phone and have it's screen displayable, and compartments for my most used writing utensils, and that's exactly what I did altogether in one prototype.
In order to revise the model I needed to take into account the feedback given to me by my teacher. Improving the craftsmanship, particularly the cleanliness of the look of the compartment on top. Perhaps of course the stringy hot glue around the edges was sloppy and needed to be changed. And that is also exactly what I changed. Hopefully the new addition is adequate alongside the doodles.
I am very proud that I was able to accurately capture what I both drew and originally imagined. Impressed that it was actually able to ho my phone and other items. But unfortunately, it's downfall is that its containment of these items does not last for longer than two days before beginning to stretch out/sink inward.
