Foundations of Engineering

We will learn how to use tools like the bandsaw and drills and more for our final project.

We are doing this project to learn about the tools and how to use them.

This project will help us get new skills and how to make new things.

Practice 1

we used a band saw to cut the wood into shapes.

Practice 2

I used the band saw to cut my own puzzle out in a weird way as practice

Band saw

When you are using the band saw keep your hands away from the blade and when you are done cutting turn off the band saw. When you use the band saw go slow and don't go fast you might cut your finger off and watch what you doing. Don't play around the band saw keep your hair up.

Planer saw

If you have on a tie make sure it don't get in the way and do not play around the planer saw. Do what you need to do for you wont get hurt or anything can happen.

Miter saw

Do not have fingers under the blade and dont lift up the saw when on wait until the blade stop.When you use the miter saw take your time dont rush you could mess up the blade or have a bad cut.

Miter saw cut

I used the miter saw the wood in two the top and the one on the bottom and i used the planner saw to smooth the wood out to use the miter saw.

I glued the two woods together and I used clamps to hold them together to dry.

DIY WOODEN COASTERS

4/17/2023 Today in class we learned of our next project. We will make DIY Wooden Coasters out of scraps of wood. Some of the important power tools we will use are the following:

.Planer Saw

.Table Saw

.Orbital Saw

.Floor Drill Press

Planer Saw

Do not put your fingers in the open area

Don't force the wood onto the blade

No playing around when you are using the planer saw

The planer saw is used to even and ajusted the thickness of the place of the wood and to strip the wood of unwanted strains and shaves off wood to smooth it out.

Table Saw

Don'ts Never saw freehand. Never clear small pieces while blade is moving. Never adjust saw or setup while saw is running. Don't over reach. Use Push Sticks and Push Blocks.

Table Saw cut straighter lines and make smoother cuts on small and long woods. Although the majority of table saws are used for cutting wood and table saws can also be used for cutting sheet plastic, sheet aluminum and sheet brass.

Orbital Saw

Do not hold or force the retracting lower guard in the open position.
Do not place hand under the shoe or guard of the saw.
Do not over tighten the blade-locking nut.
Do not twist the saw to change, cut or check alignment.

Orbital action is suitable for aggressive cuts in wood when a rough cut to remove material quickly is called for. However it's not recommended for cutting metal or when making highly precise cuts.

Floor Drill Press

Do not wear any loose clothing or ties
Do not wear gloves rings watches or bracelets while working with a drill press.
Do not set speeds, adjust or measure work until machine is completely stopped.

The drill press is a motorized tool designed to bore holes in wood metal or plastic. Like a handheld drill drill presses utilize various types of bits to make holes of different diameters.

Drawn Coaster Design

Left) this image shows a drawn out design of what i want my coaster to look like. The coaster will be in the shape of a square that is 3 3/4 x 3 3/4. My coasters will have three even sections .
