This project we each created an element from the periodic table, for mine I choose the element Rubidium, researching this element was hard because it's not very common so when I created this rather including drawing of what it is I drew an abstract form of each of the charges with in the element its self-using color quadrated dots then I filled in the spaces with information about the element and finally tied it all together by drawing the atomic number, atomic weight electron configuration etc. over all the element itself was really interesting and I had fun drawing it.
For my drawing, I drew inspiration from Guernica by Pablo Picasso's depiction of the bombing of the town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Picasso's use of black and white emphasizes the bleakness and horror of the event. The painting is filled with chaotic imagery of screaming figures, a woman falling from a building, and a bull charging through the scene all capturing the raw emotion and destruction of war. In my piece, I recreated a detail from Guernica. the eye crying but within my own style. To deepen the emotional impact, I incorporated the chemical element Cortisol, which is a stress hormone which when the human body is high in the hormone it can cause high blood pressure, high blood pressure and difficulties with sleep among other symptoms. I incorporated this chemical to symbolize the anxiety and fear evoked by the painting. Through this drawing, I tried to explore the connection between visual expression and the chemistry around emotion.
