World History
Ancient Civilizations
Making the brick was kind of hard. First, we had to dig up some dirt and add water to make mud. Then we had to mix it a lot until it was ready. After that, we put the mud into a mold to shape it into a brick.
The bamboo structure was easier. We just held the sticks together and tied them with string to keep them in place.
I think I would survive in that kind of situation because I have the patience to keep trying and building again if something doesn’t work the first time.
This connects to world literature and geometry. In world lit, we’re reading The Epic of Gilgamesh, which takes place in Mesopotamia where they built things using bricks. In geometry, we’re going to make our own civilizations using measurements, so this activity helped us get ready for that.
Food For Thought
In our world history portion of food for thought, we were given a hemisphere to create a dish within our groups, but only using ingredients from that hemisphere. We each individually brought different food items from the selected hemisphere and had a cook-off at school.
