Design Process

  First, we tried to make a skull fully out of clay and styrofoam. There were some major flaws with this plan. It was very difficult to make the skull out of clay. The skull is very detailed and has small intricate bones. We had to come up with another plan. We decided to 3D print our skull.  We communicated through group me over the week to make sure we had a finished product by the due date. Unfortunately, the 3d printer didn't print the whole skull. We had to add clay to the top to create the rest. We may take some of the clay off to make the shape of the skull more accurate.

We learned that 3d printing is more difficult than it looks. You have to find or make files that show accurate depictions of the bones. Next we had to scale our model. Once we actually printed our bones, we ran into some difficulties. Sometimes the printers ran out of fillament or printed incorrectly. Lastly we had to clean off excess fillament and assemble the skeleton.
