Fake news is news or stories on the internet that are not true...
There are 2 kinds of fake news...
False stories that are deliberately published or sent around in order to make people believe something untrue or gets lots of people to visit a website. These are deliberate lies that are put online, even though the person writing them knows they are made up.
Stories that may have some truth to them, but are not completely accurate. This is because the people writing them don't check all the facts before publishing the story or they might exaggerate some of it.
As a class you are going to create a newspaper. Individually you are all going to come up with your own news article real or fake.
There are 5 categories. Your teacher will allocate you to a group and then within your group each person will write a real or fake story. The categories are...
Sports
Entertainment
Weather
Local/International news
Fashion/Style
Sports - “Football star Messi signs for Raith Rovers”
Entertainment - “It’s official, NBC confirm F.R.I.E.N.D.S the movie”
Weather - “Hurricane said to hit UK”
Local/International - “Donald Trump vows to knock down Mexican wall”
Fashion - “This Autumn's weird new fashion trend, Fake Mustaches”
Your articles don't have to be a full page long, you could just write a paragraph and then cut them out and stick a few stories to the one page. You can add images to your article if you want. Remember you need a front page and a name for your class newspaper.
After everyone has created their articles put all the stories together and now you have your class newspaper. Now as a class test your knowledge of fake news and guess which ones are real and which ones are fake.
