A groundbreaking HIV prevention study to evaluate the effects of PrEP education to Kink/ Leather/ BDSM and fetish involved people who have never taken PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) or who are not currently taking PrEP.
Kinky people talk a lot about sex ...
but why don’t we talk more about PrEP?
PrEP (HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis medication) is generally seen as something used by urban gay white men, but there are many others who may also benefit from taking PrEP. They may not have seen themselves as eligible, did not know about the customizable ways to take it, or felt current promotional programs did not speak to them.
The focus of this first of-its-kind study will be on a particular HIV vulnerable audience; kink-involved people who also have identities that often contribute to feelings of misrepresentation and invisibility - kinky HIV-vulnerable people who also may be women, trans, BIPOC, sex workers, and those who live in rural areas or those who meet bias by healthcare providers.

What is the PrEP4Kink Study?
PrEP4Kink aims to assess the factors that increase the uptake of PrEP in a novel sexual subculture by testing the impact of an entertainment-education intervention.
Every three months over the course of one year, we will ask participants to watch one or two short videos and answer some questions online; accessed via phone, desktop or laptop.
In the videos, people from a wide variety of genders, lifestyles, orientations and cultures, will talk about their experiences on PrEP.
The study will track the study participant's PrEP knowledge and attitudes, and measure any change in decisions to take this medication to prevent HIV.
Participants do not have to choose to take PrEP to be a part of, or to continue participating in the PrEP4kink study.
What participants should know about participating:
No participant will be required to begin PrEP or continue taking PrEP to complete this study
Medication will not be supplied to participants in this study. If interested in starting PrEP, participants will need to see a healthcare provider via in-person or telehealth visits, for prescribing, ongoing health testing and medication monitoring
After finishing each viewing session, participants will be paid $20 in a gift card, redeemable online. The total amount received will be $120 if all the steps in the study are completed.
Participants can participate for as long as they want, and can stop participating at any time.
Participants can choose if their responses will be used in future research projects.
